Biography Riddle:

Who am I?

Born into Slav’ry, at the Maryland Plantation,

We lived a horrid lifestyle, and we had no education,

I escaped from slave conditions at the age of 29,

I saw what others had and slavery was a crime,

Very soon, I travelled back to rescue all my friends,

I went back many times again, to slowly make amends,

In my time during the missions, I saved 300 men,

And brought them to a safehouse, time and time again,

When Civil War began, we had no choice but to fight,

I saw an opportunity to bring slav’ry to the light,

As the first Black woman to lead a clash, I led an armed assault,

We freed hundreds of captured slaves, grinding slav'ry to a halt,

After we had won the war, I fought for rights to vote,

Attending many meetings, our rights I did promote,

When I grew old and weak, my life became withdrawn,

I set up a Retirement home, and walked into the dawn,

In my life, I heard them crying, through the day and night,

And now that I’ve seen the darkness, I cannot see the light,

Who am I?
